It’s obvious that game is something that many celebrities lack. It baffles me sometimes. Here you are, in possession of more money than many people could ever dream of. You have an abundance of beautiful women at your beckon call that will do whatever it takes to get your attention. They’ll even look past previous domestic violence cases and the constant drama that said celebrities engage in on social media. When you’re a celebrity, you’re at the top of your game. You’re recognized and lauded for your talents, any man’s dream. How can Soulja Boy and Chris Brown possibly mess this fantasy up?
To be clear, this isn’t even Chris’s fault. Sure, he was picking his fair share of beefs with random individuals in the past but he (slightly) calmed himself after his debacle with the police a few months ago. Soulja Boy has taken over the wave that Chris created and took it to another level, threatening to pull up on entertainers and even YouTube personalities with the “Draco”, nevermind the fact that he’s on probation. Soulja Boy has been starting petty issues with individuals for years. Soulja’s buffoonery isn’t a new thing. However, this situation requires addressing, seeing that a Pay Per View boxing match sponsored by Mayweather Promotions is in the works between the two artists.
The issue between the two started just like how most of Chris’s other feuds start, over ex-Girlfriend turned actress/socialite Karrueche Tran. Mr. Brown is obviously obsessed with his past lover, even oddly screaming out her name on his 2016 summer hit Back To Sleep. Somehow, he knows of every time someone likes Karruche’s pictures, even though they’ve been seperated for over a year. Nevertheless, in his constant stalking of her page, he discovered that Soulja Boy liked one of her pictures.
Chris Brown loses his mind and calls Soulja in frustrated haste. Chris Brown says that he wants to fight Soulja Boy and the public social media back and forth ensues. Chris’s daughter Royalty is thrown into the war-of-words and Soulja Boy takes a trip out to the streets of California where he almost got into a fight with a residential gang member. All of these events culminated into Floyd Mayweather hopping into the mix, setting up a Mayweather Promotions Pay-Per-View boxing match between Soulja and Chris.
As a society, we tend to cling onto anything. I’ve seen fans of both artists and opinionated social media users on spin control, applauding them for deciding to duke it out in the boxing ring instead. Hey, at least Big Gucci Soulja isn’t pulling out the Draco on Bris Breezy right? It’s such a great thing that these two grown, wealthy, marginally powerful men that are going at it over a woman that doesn’t want them are going to box instead of taking it to “the streets” right? Making sense of this debacle is like trying to find the positives in Donald Trump’s inaugural address.
Be clear, this is not a good thing. This is pathetic on every level imaginable and should stain Chris’s reputation even more than it already is and completely end Soulja Boy’s whole internet career. Firstly, let’s just acknowledge the fact that Chris Brown is clearly stalking Karrueche. It just simply isn’t healthy. Why is he so obsessed with her every move. He even causes a scene over something that she doesn’t have any control over, who double taps her picture on Instagram. Chris is the perfect example of a man that is in love and doesn’t know how to constructively express his hurt. He’s hurt over his severed relationship with Karrueche has turned into passive aggressive social media attacks and a special type of female objectification we like to call “handcuffing”. He had multiple chances at his girl and ruined it every time. Now, he’s spiraled out of control. He’s doing everything he can to cope with the loss and can’t even fathom her being with someone else. Chris Brown could’ve replaced Michael Ely’s in The Perfect Guy.
I’m starting to think that Soulja Boy likes being the laughing stock of social media. Seriously, he’ll threaten to beat you up for sneezing around him. Just to think that Soulja Boy was rap’s first true internet star and viral sensation eleven years ago is saddening. He fell all the way off. He could still be getting legit money and opportunities but he decided to start false claiming gangs that are obviously extorting him. Soulja Boy, it’s not 1991. Gangbanging isn’t “cool” anymore. Girls are even over it now, making fun of the buffoonery every chance they can get. It just make you look insane. Let’s come up for real. Soulja Boy has already lost his base of supporters that would buy/stream his music (females ages 13-22) to newer artists that know how to better market themselves and aren’t going through a mini mid-life crisis. Jacquees is taking all of Soulja’s Kiss Me Through The Phone fans!
Now, will I be watching this fight between Soulja and Chris? Oh most definitely! I’ll find for free though! However, let’s not act like this situation is them being mature and settling their issues like men. It doesn’t bring me delight to see two talented and intelligent black men putting themselves on display. Chris Brown had all the makings of a star that transcended music. Not to be blasphemous but he really could’ve been this generation’s Michael Jackson. Soulja Boy was a hustler with how he used to get down with his business. I’ll never forget his interviews with the Wall Street Journal where he was dropping tons of social media and merchandising gems. It’s a shame to see what they’ve become.
These two reaffirm to me that having celebrity doesn’t mean that you have any inkling of game or knowledge. You always have to look out for your best interest and your bottom line, never compromising yourself to be something that you’re not. Hopefully these two learn this before it’s too late. Then again, it might already be.
